Summer is here!

While warm weather makes for fun activities, it also brings out mosquitos. Mosquitos are active in the early morning and evening. Mosquitos do not just make itchy, annoying bites. They can carry disease such as West Nile Virus, which can be serious.

To protect yourself from these pesky critters, use an EPA approved insect repellant when you are outside in the morning or evening. Look for products with one of these ingredients:

  • DEET
  • IR 3535
  • PMD (p-Menthane-3, 8-diol)
  • Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (natural ingredient)
  • Picaridin (also works for ticks)
  • 2-undecanone

To put on insect repellant, cover all areas of exposed skin. Put it on your hands and then use your hands to put repellant on your face. Wash your skin when you go inside.

Don’t put insect repellant on babies under 6 months of age. Use a mosquito net over a stroller if you need to be outside with an infant when mosquitos are active.

Don’t put insect repellant on infants or toddler’s hands.
