What do I need to know about Bird Flu?

Bird flu is found in wild birds throughout the world and is currently spreading in the United States’ poultry population. It has also adapted and spread to cows. There is one current human case in a U.S. dairy worker.

Bird flu does not normally infect humans, but rare human infections occur in people who have close contact with infected animals. There have only been two humans with bird flu in the past 5 years in the United States.

If you don’t work with birds or cows, you are not at risk for bird flu.
