Did you know that about one out of every three unvaccinated people in the United States will develop shingles in their lifetime? Shingles is a viral infection that causes a very painful rash. Sometimes the pain can last long after the rash is gone. Shingles can be prevented with a vaccine. You are at risk if you had chickenpox and are getting older.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends two doses of vaccine to prevent shingles and its complications for people over age 50, or over 19 who have a weak immune system. You can get the vaccine at your health care provider or a pharmacy.
